Letters to Nowhere

When I was a kid..

I asked my son to turn down the TV. He looked around didn't see the remote and said, "oh man! I'm gonna have WALK all the way over there."

All friken 4 feet.

That's where I wanted to launch into a "When I was a kid we had to walk to the TV every single time you wanted to change the channel or adjust the volume.. UPHILL both ways.. In KNEE HIGH shag carpet!"

Kids.. they just don't have a sense of humor.

  • Have you noticed that with each generation kids get more and more lazy? I asked my son to hand me my cell phone (it was right beside him on the couch), and he looked at me like I was asking him to run a marathon or something. What are we doing wrong? LOL

  • And can you imagine what they'll be saying to their own kids? Probably something like, "We actually had to PUSH BUTTONS on a remote control and try to remember where we put it!"

  • My Father and I jokingly get into that whole "back in my day" back-and-forth discussion. Naturally, we take it to the ridiculous heights you might imagine.
Me: Back in my day, we didn't have TV. We had Radio!
Him: Back in my day, we'd bang rocks on logs and we liked it! Hell, that's how we communicated with other settlings. We didn't have phones either! That was our phone AND our radio!
Me: Well back in my... ya know what? See this house you're sitting in? I remember when this whole area was ALL TREES!
Him: I remember the Sahara Forest.
    Me: Sahara Desert...
Him: Exactly! See? Now go get your Dad a beer.

  • Sad to say the "knee high in shag carpet" comment is so true. I still have the scars from tripping in shag carpet and my head being introduced to the edge of the coffee table. Sadly alcohol was not a factor.
